Artist Statement
When
I was first told of our final assignment to incorporate the golden ratio, a
microcosm, and a macrocosm, in gray scale, my mind reeled the many
possibilities. My mind raced through the sun kissed African savannah, dove into
a rich Hawaiian coral reef, pranced through a peaceful garden, and then I
finally rested upon a more urban approach. I was researching images that
represented the golden ratio when I came upon a picture of a fist. My mind
instantly saw a picture of a man getting punched in a dark alley of a city. So
I began to sketch. My first approach was to go for a more comic book feel. I
wanted a cop car involved with crime scene tape with the lights reflecting off
the water on the street and brick walls, and I wanted to show the fight as well
as the forensic investigation of fingerprints and blood spatter. All of these
ideas hit me at once and I was so overwhelmed. So as I started to paint my grey
scale images, all of these ideas just didn’t fit successfully into the final
version. So I simplified my ideas to just the man being punched in an alley.
Now, the golden ratio is represented in the fist, the microcosm is represented
in an up-close look at a human face, and the alley way represents the
macrocosm. I feel like my final project is very successful. I feel like I used
the grey scale to accurately create a light source as well as depth, dimension,
and texture. I am very proud of my final project as it coveys a mysterious
execution of the criteria.

Mambo Numba Fiveee (aka HW#5) (:
-Find a surrealistic painting from the previous guide, and describe the following about it-
-Ideal geometry are forms that are created with mathematical ratios. Ideal geometry, or also named, the Golden Mean, was created by ancient Greeks. Here is an example by Thomas Peploe Wood's of the Golden mean in his painting. Width is to length, as length is to width, as length is to length plus width.

How is scale and Proportion integrated into a surrealistic piece of art? Describe the effect
-Scale and Proportion are both used in this piece of art in the aspect that the flowers giant in proportion to the people and to the boat. An average person is 5 - 6ft tall. These flowers would have to be at least a hundred feet tall. The mere scale of the theses flowers gives this picture a dream-like effect.
Discuss proportion and the notion of ideal geometry in a composition. Give and example.
-Proportions in art created when the size of an object is judged against another to find its accurate measurement. An example of this would be in figure drawing. When drawing the human figure, it is best drawn idealistically when the height of a human is made of 7 head lengths; or the wing span of the figure.

What is the Golden Rectangle and provide an example in a piece of art.
The Golden rectangle was used by Leonardo to create the Mona Lisa, he used the proportions of her nose to create the measurements of the rest of the picture.
Discuss your current final project and what will be your inspiration.
-In my final project i was inspired by the golden ration in a humans hand. I loved how the measurements of each joint is a mathematical measurement of one another. So i will be using this concept in a comic book-like illustration. I will use the fist to punch a man's face (which is also a part of the golden ratio), and using this concept I want to illustrate a back alley fight/crime scene investigation.
I'm sooooo excited for the end result!
cute quotes from winnie the pooh

“One of the advantages of being disorganized is that one is always having surprising discoveries.” -Pooh
“People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.” -Pooh
“We'll be Friends Forever, won't we, Pooh?' asked Piglet.
Even longer,' Pooh answered.” “If the person you are talking to doesn't appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear."
